On Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the conclusion of the 12:30 P.M. Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA, the Polish Apostolate Pride of Polonia Award was presented to Richard L. Krzyzanowski, Esq., by Bishop Grzegorz Rys, Auxiliary Bishop of Krakow, and Msgr. Anthony Czarnecki, National Chairman of the Polish Apostolate Committee.

The Pride of Polonia Award was established in 1992 by the Executive Board of the Polish Apostolate to recognize individuals who make unique contributions to the Polish community and are involved in philanthropic activites. The first recipient was John Cardinal Krol.

The recipient of this distinguished award, Richard L. Krzyzanowski, Esq., was born in Poland and arrived in the United States in 1966 as a political refugee. He graduated from universities in Italy, Poland, France and the United States, and obtained a doctorate in International Law from the University of Paris (Sorbonne). He is General Counsel, Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors of a multi-national company, Crown Holdings, Inc. Mr. Krzyzanowski established a philanthropic foundation, the “Krzyzanowski Foundation”, which supports Catholic charities and many Polish American institutions, such as the Polish American Congress of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Polish American Radio Program, Polish American Social Services, and the Polish American Cultural Center Museum in Philadelphia. He has been deeply involved during the past 30 years with the John Paul II Foundation in the Vatican by assisting with its establishment and helping to raise funds for its endowment fund.

For his “pro bono” activities in support of the Catholic Church, he received many medals and awards and is especially proud of the highest civilian Vatican recognition from Pope John Paul II, the Medal of St. Gregory, for his work for the Universal Catholic Church.
